I can't be the only person, can I?
More than once I have had to get up at 3am and go into Smudger's room (at the other end of the landing) to switch the radio off at the plug (it's already off but the switch is on) because I can't concentrate on being asleep otherwise.
I suspect you are going to tell me this is not normal.
But I can hear it I tell you!!!

Pro I know exactly what you mean - I get it from time to time, from a number of things. One of them is Landers' mobile charger - I have to unplug it sometimes, but it only makes the noise when it's not charging anything. I think it's something to do with capacitors...
I can hear some electrical hums.
The clock radio in our house used to give off a very faint hum that would really annoy me on some nights.

Laptop charger makes a noise like a clicking hand held fan.
Fish tank filter whisking away, not to mention the bubbles.
Fish tank light hums all the time, on or off.
Boiler in the kitchen buzzes to itself and boils like a kettle intermittently.
Fridge - say no more.
And to that two ticking clocks, which tick at different times.
I'm used to it now, but if I stay at someone else's house and I can hear anything at all, I can't sleep a wink.

It's worse than you think.
The Russians have been transmitting for at least the past 20 years a high-frequency click, at such mega amplitude that its range covers the entire western hemisphere.
It clicks once, every 5 seconds of every minute, of every hour, of every day - FOR EVAH.
It's called Woodpecker. No one knows why they are doing it but there's a conspiracy theory that if they suddenly switch it off, we'll all go mad.

I've experienced it for years, blogged about it here a while ago. Like most people I find it most noticeable in the wee sma' hours, and it does seem to be geographic.
It has been recorded; it does exist. So the expert has got it wrong if he is inferring that it only loonies who hear it. Yes, those of us who hear it tend to have extra sensitive hearing (I can hear a pin drop) but that doesn't mean that the sound doesn't exist. Therefore what is it?

Noooo ... I was reading something just yesterday about this woman who may have to move from her home cos she cant stop hearing a hum. She hears it nowhere else but at her house and no-one else hears it.
